Do not try this at home
File this one under "seemed like a good idea at the time". On Saturday, Tracy and I attempted this recipe found on the bag for the candy corn flavored Hershey Kisses. It's basically a peanut butter and oatmeal cookie, but after baking, you drizzle melted candy corn Hershey Kisses on top and then stick one of the Kisses on to each cookie as it's still warm from the oven.
We decided that we'd make them like peanut butter blossoms, skip the drizzle and just stick the Kisses into each dough-blob before baking. Like so:
Two things went wrong with these cookies. 1) Organic peanut butter. Had the wrong consistency or oil content or something, because these cookies were so dry, they turned to sand in your mouth. 2) I can see why the recipe didn't call for putting the Kisses on the cookies before baking, because the top white part of the Kisses got burned. They ended up looking like shriveled little orange pumpkins with brown stems.
The flavor was great, but the cookies were way too dry. We choked down a couple and then threw the rest of the batch away. I think if we'd used the right kind of peanut butter, these would have been pretty great. I liked the combination of peanut butter and oatmeal.
As for the candy corn flavored Hershey Kisses themselves, there seems to be widely varying opinions on what these even taste like. Candy Addict has two different reviews; one compares the taste to black licorice, and the other says they taste just like candy corn. Candy Blog compares the flavor to artificial butter flavor.
As for me, they were a little too sweet for mass consumption, but I thought they mimicked the flavor of candy corn pretty well, with a slightly buttery taste and texture. I'd still take regular candy corn over these, as the texture of candy corn is its main appeal to me.

Just FYI, my brain exploded into flames and the bloodied stump of my neck was subsequently burned with flames of fire when I read the words candy corn flavored Hershey Kisses.
I always thought the flavor of candy corn was "sugar".
So at Easter, do they also have Peeps flavored Hershey's Kisses?

How do you feel, sgazzetti, about hot cocoa flavored Hershey's kisses?

This whole new flavors thing must've happened since I left the states. I remember when Hershey was seen as being all edgy by wrapping them in red and green foil between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now, can anyone explain to me the major flavor difference between 'hot cocoa' and 'chocolate'?

It's only been in the last few years that I've noticed all these novel flavors of Hershey Kisses. First it was the almond ones, and the Hugs (white and milk chocolate, swirled - yuck). I've never been too enthused about any of the special flavors. I don't know what the difference is between 'hot cocoa' and 'chocolate', but I want to find out.

I generally cannot stand white chocolate so I also didn't like the Hugs. There is a difference in flavor between the hot cocoa kisses and the regular milk chocolate ones. The hot cocoa ones taste like, well, hot cocoa, which is a somewhat different flavor from regular milk chocolate. You'll just have to taste them and see. Unless you live in Slovenia where there probably is no chance in hell of ever acquiring Hershey's Kisses of any flavor. Maybe an emergency rations mailing is in order.
I think the novel flavors are relatively new but I, like both of you, have also not been tracking this very closely. I can't imagine why.

Well, if you make the peanut butter blossoms where you actually bake the kisses into the cookie, if milk chocolate was white, you would see that the chocolate on those gets pretty scorched as well. However, I have had the PB Blossoms where the kiss was put in after baking, and I have to say, they just aren't as good. The heat does something nummy to the chocolate, changes the consistancy to something yummy.
Wow... long winded comment. Sorry, it's the drugs, I swear.
