Vegetarians for Funny
Today Brad and I went to the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts, where I bought two lovely presents for myself and Brad wondered why he'd come along because it was 90 degrees and really humid.
I haven't been to an art fair in a couple of years and I was really noticing how commercialized they're becoming. There were booths for several major corporations that have nothing to do with art. And this isn't even one of the largest art festivals in the Twin Cities. As infuriated as I was over the infiltration of corporate America into the festival, I was still sucked in by a Sun Country Airlines booth where they had fake political campaign signs that said, "VEGETARIANS FOR CHEESEBURGERS".
Huh?
So I went up to the booth lady and said, "what's with the vegetarian sign?"
"Oh," she said, "that's kind of a joke. Because in the commercial, they're voting on whether to get free cheeseburgers, which are now being given out on Sun Country flights." I was waiting for the part where it's funny, but she didn't seem to know the funny part.
So, being sucked in my corporate America as I now was, I decided to watch the commercial when I got home. It's here (click on the #3, as it's the third commercial on the site). Even after seeing the commercial, it wasn't funny.
As a vegetarian, I actually have no desire now to go on a Sun Country flight where I'll have to smell cheeseburgers all around me and where I've been made into the butt of a joke that's not even funny. And I'm the first person to laugh at a funny vegetarian joke, so it's not like I'm overly sensitive. Come on, if I'm going to be a punch line, at least make it funny.

Those commercials are pretty funny.
And the vegetarians come in where?
Might as well have said "Squirrels for cheesburgers".
